Demopolis AL to Bashi Creek AL, Mile 4367 to 4439, Day 223

October 29

Despite the cold temperatures, there were seven down bound boats headed to the Demopolis Lock; we all had to wait until the tug Mon Ta locked through. We were able to follow at about 9am. It was a long day down the river, but an uneventful one.

We reached Bashi Creek in the late afternoon; this was one of very few anchorages in the area. Tows turn for the bend at the entrance to the creek, so anchored boats need to make sure they’re well within the creek. Resolute was the first vessel in – the creek was deep, but narrow with encroaching trees – narrower than Little Diversion Channel on the Mississippi. Once again, we’d need to raft together to prevent swinging. The boat ramp was a good spot for dog walks – Pat, Pete and Jude got to take advantage.
